About Miss World 2026

Miss World is the world's oldest and one of the most influential international beauty pageants, founded in 1951 by British promoter Eric Morley in London. The pageant introduced the concept of a worldwide televised beauty competition and has since expanded to include representatives from over 130 countries. Miss World is defined by its Beauty With a Purpose programme, a charitable initiative requiring each contestant to develop and present a project that addresses a genuine community or humanitarian need. This philanthropic focus distinguishes Miss World from other international pageants and has channelled millions of pounds into community projects globally. The 2026 edition is hosted in Vietnam, continuing Miss World's tradition of expanding its footprint across Asia. Competition rounds include Beauty With a Purpose presentations, talent, sports and fitness, top model, multimedia, and the grand finale with evening gown and on-stage interview. Miss World has crowned winners from India, Venezuela, the United Kingdom, and numerous African and Caribbean nations among its most decorated countries.

How to Apply

Entry to Miss World is through national franchises operating in each eligible country. Candidates typically enter local or regional competitions, with winners progressing to national finals. The national winner earns the right to represent their country at Miss World International. Eligibility requirements include age (17 to 27 in most national systems), single status, and citizenship or permanent residency. Each contestant must also develop a Beauty With a Purpose charitable project that forms a significant part of the judging process. Contact your country's official Miss World national organisation to find current application timelines and requirements.

History

Eric Morley founded Miss World in 1951 as a publicity event for the Festival of Britain. The contest drew immediate international interest and became an annual televised event watched by hundreds of millions. Morley's wife Julia took over leadership after his death in 2000 and continues to chair the organisation. India has produced more Miss World winners than any other country, with Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999), Priyanka Chopra (2000), and Manushi Chhillar (2017) among its celebrated champions.
