The Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) is Nigeria's premier national pageant, organised by Silverbird Group since 1986. It crowns four delegates annually for the Big Four international pageants: Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth. Agbani Darego's 2001 Miss World victory, the first by a native African, remains MBGN's defining moment and a landmark in global pageant history.
Miss Nigeria is a separate and independent national competition from MBGN with its own long history in Nigerian pageantry. First held in 1957, Miss Nigeria is one of the oldest beauty pageants in Africa. Nigeria's selection for Miss Universe is conducted under the MBGN system by Silverbird Group. Abuja, Nigeria's federal capital and administrative heart, hosts its own pageant tradition reflecting the city's cosmopolitan character and diplomatic community. State-level pageants in the FCT attract an educated, well-travelled candidate pool from across Nigeria who have settled in the capital, creating one of the most internationally minded competitions in the country.
The Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) is the gateway to international competition for Nigerian women. Applications are managed by Silverbird Group and open annually through the official MBGN website and Silverbird Television. Contestants must be Nigerian citizens aged 18 to 25, single and never married with no children, and meet a minimum height requirement typically set at 5 feet 7 inches.
Miss Nigeria accepts applications independently of the MBGN system and has its own organiser and eligibility criteria. Face of Nigeria and other commercial pageants are announced through social media, the Nigerian entertainment press, and direct applications through their respective websites.
